Footage filmed in the city of Bozhou, in China’s northwestern province of Anhui, shows the child being struck after running across a street.
A man, who is believed to be his dad, stands on one side of the road as the incident unfolds and screams when he understands the boy has been hit.
In the video, the boy can be seen running across the road and being struck by the vehicle.
It is believed the child failed to see the combine harvester because of a lorry trailer parked by the side of the road that was obstructing his view.
The clip shows the young boy, who has not been named, being hit in the head by the vehicle’s header.
He appears to avoid being run over by the vehicle’s wheels as his parents scream and run to his rescue.
After the horrific incident, the boy gets up on his own and bursts into tears as the adults nearby carry him off.
Local media reported that the young boy escaped serious injury in the incident, only suffering some bruises and cuts.
It is unclear if the combine harvester driver stopped to check on the young boy.
It is also unknown if the police are investigating the matter.
